Rap to club beats because they get air play in the clubs and people will learn your name because they heard you there. Rap to club beats because you will expand your audience to cover people who have never heard you before. Furthermore, rap to club beats because they get airplay and head nod recognition in a way that other styles of hip hop beat just don’t get. And rap to club beats because females listen to club music. It doesn’t matter that you don’t like club beats, people who pay money for music do, and by putting your style to a familiar rap genre you can increase your recognition.
But how, you ask. That’s not so simple. You could begin simply rapping to club beats you pick up until you find one that jives with your style and then working your lyrics back and forth over it until you’ve found the right combination that makes a sick song. Or you could try by listening to some artist who has put out songs to club beats, and imitating their style and cadence a little bit until you get it down. You might even try sitting down and writing out a few songs and spitting them back over the club beat tracks you’ve got until you’ve got something you’re ready to let other people hear.
It really doesn’t matter how you go about putting down your lyrics to club beats. What matters is that put in the work and get the results. The results of course are a sick song that other people can both dance to and appreciate the lyrics of. If you can rap to a beat that people will dance to you will get an infinite increase in air play over the airplay any lyric and bass heavy track would get you. My girl will still go on the dance floor when Michael Jackson’s Billy Jean is on. And the reason is not simply because his lyrics and voice are on point, though I’m sure that’s a big part of it, but it’s because that beat, even without lyrics, is such that people want to get up and move to it.
Now you may be thinking that you aint writing no dance music and you aint no dance band rapper. Get over it. Show off your skills to a club beat and then maybe someone will actually hear you. There is more to music than bass and aggressive lyrics, especially where women are concerned and you had better be putting out a product that females can respond to or you may as not even be putting out any product at all.
Don’t stop to think about it. Find the sickest club beat you can. Take your time and test the beats and different people you know and find out which club beats are really the hottest. Once you’ve found those couple of club beats that make people (read girls) want to move then spend your time putting down lyrics over them.
